Chapter one and two

Marlena Fritchman
Chapter 1&2

I find this book to be a little confusing. As I understand that there is deception in the world, the book makes you think that a commercial or ad will be nothing but lies. I do have to say though, I am a firm believer that politicians are doing nothing but weaving a nice large nest of untruth. In chapter one the writers are pointing out all the different deception techniques that certain companies use. Have you ever looked at yourself and wondered, why did I buy this product? I have. I feel that we all kind of want the lies because it makes us feel better about spending the money. Like with "Snake Oil, Emu Oil" the people who baught those products wanted to believe in something and it made them feel better. I feel that if a product does not actually hurt or cause you misery, why not believe in something!

In chapter two it names a few things that you can watch out for in order to find the deception. I do not feel that these are truly accurate. With "If it's scary, be wary", this can go for a lot more things than just the deception of marketers. There are doctors' out there that will use the scare tactic in order to get the results they want. In "A story that's "too good"", there are stories out there and people out there who are actually there to help, if you get everybody to believe that all "fish stories" are nonsense, they will miss out on some great opportunities. I do side with all the political information and these warning signs are a great contribute to the reason I choose not to vote. I might change my mind when an honest candidate comes up (ha, ha, ha).

I enjoyed your writing, I think that you and I both worked more towards the essay instead of a summary. I needed to be more brief and to stick to the main points, I think that is what you will need to do as well. Good luck with your changes, I'll be doing some myself.

not enough facts

Crystal is right to some degree, that there is a need for more of the major details. Since the summary is to provide your reader a map of the original, it's important that every major detail be included. In chapter one, this means something for each of the bold headings that introduce a section and for chapter two this means that each of the warning signs needs to be included because each of those warning signs is a major detail. Bradley

Hmmm......

I like the way you gave your opinion with the details you did include. I think though that maybe you need to add some hard facts along with your opinion.

Missing

It is missing the details. This is more of a opinion summary. You did include a few details here and there, but for each chapter I think we are supposed to hit every bold one and find a example to support it.

Advertising does seem to

Advertising does seem to omit evidence and create false illusions, and I have also wondered why I have bought a product or two. However, I think this precis was to be just a listing of the facts, not our opinions. The critical thinking portion of this assignment comes later.
