Kim W. Chapter 1-2 summary

Brooks Jackson and Kathleen Hall Jamieson open our eyes tot he world of deception through the book un-Spun.

Deception has been going on for 100's of years. Jackson uses the examples of snake oil sold by Rattlesnake King htat was claimed to be "good for man and beast" and the Emu oil of 2006 that is "Much better than Botox". THroughout time we see product change but the methods of deception remain the same. "Spin" (another word for deception) is found in politics, commercials, or ideology.

Seven of the warning signs given to us are:
-If it's scary, Be wary
-A story that's "too good"
-The dangling comparative
-The superlatives Swindle
-The "Pay you Tuesday" con
-The blame game
-Glittering generalities

main points a bit thin

For chapter two, the major details are more than just the headings to those sections. It's important to make it clear to your reader what it means if it's scary be wary and so on. Otherwise they are left to figure things out on their own. In a sentence, for each of the warning signs, make it clear what is important about those warning signs.

For chapter one, pretty much the same thing needs to happen, based on the bold section headings if nothing more. This is the sort of thing the directions tell you to look for and it's for good reason, because it will provide you and your reader a clear map of the original if you follow it. Bradley

This summary sounds more like a conclusion to a paper because you are writing as if your audience has already read the chapters and you are referring back to them. I think you have a good start with your information and the main points.

add complete sentences

You have a good beginning! I also think you identified major points very well but I would just write those main points in complete sentences.

You have the beginnings of a

You have the beginnings of a good overview. I think we are supposed to elaborate a little more on each point though. Giving examples of each item you listed without going into minor details would help with the next part of the assignment.
