Poe and Mellvile have very different type of writing than we have read in the past, mainly because their writing tends to be a little bit more entertaining than writtings done by thoearu, or possiblity maybe Columbus one of the first people that we read.
For example Poe wrote the poem "Raven" which was more interesting to read and more detailed than say bradstreet, where all of her poems were based of her faith for God. And the idea that nothing mattered as long as she had that to believe in.However now with Poe and the Raven, he writes more as in the raven who is speaking to the narator of the poem, giving a type of gothic type of writing.
With melville, we have bartelby which is a truely nontraditional type of literature compared to waht we have been reading for the fact that we dont generally hear a narrative that isnt thought of. We tend to think of narrtivies like, Rowlandson, or Jacobs narrative that deal with tails of life events.
These authors have helped transform what literature use to be to what it is now.

I think you are correct about Poe, his poem is completely different from all the other poems we have read like bradstreet. Bradstreet's poems are more like messages and hopes that she wants for her children. Poe, on the other hand, is more like a narrative poem. He uses his poetry as a way of describing things and a story line to it.
